Question - TE25 - Convert Error Dvix(Avi) -> Vcd(Mpeg-1) No.35701
June  2003-03-22 18:46:03 ( ID:q/czvvtpl6j )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I changed Avi-> Mpeg-1 to see it in my DVD player which recognizes VCD format, but after encoding, I could not see anything but moving cube when I saw it by using viewing program in my compute, and my DVD player can not recgonize it.

Also, I can not see the preview during encoding, even I checked up the preview menu.

Would you please let me know what is wrong, and tell me the exact order to conver and manual?

Thanks

minion  2003-03-22 21:37:07 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You might just need to Raise the Priority of the "Direct Show File Reader" to "1" or "2", and if you do not see the file while encodeing then there will not be a Picture in the file...

Question - TE25 - S(VCD) header trick and sync problems No.35697
Blinkonon  2003-03-22 17:02:15 ( ID:3oxeblvtt/o )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm encoding and avi file to MPeg 2 and the audio can be either 44 khz or 48 khz. Then I multiplex using the Mpeg 1 (non-standard) heading. All works fine on the PC but on my stand alone DVD play the audio is way out of sync and gets progressively worse. Is there any way of correcting this problem or any suggestions I can try?

minion  2003-03-22 21:33:15 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Technicly speaking the Audio Can NOT be 44100hz or 48000HZ it Has to be 44100HZ for it to comply to VCD/SVCD standards...First make sure that the file is In sync before you Change the header..Then Try useing the "Merge & Cut" instead of the "Multiplex" to change the header, I have allways had better luch useing the "merge & Cut"....

Blinkonon  2003-03-23 16:30:14 ( ID:3oxeblvtt/o )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Never thought of using Merge and Cut - I'll give it a try. Thanks

>I'm encoding and avi file to MPeg 2 and the audio can be either 44 khz or 48 khz

What do you mean by this? The audio HAS to be 44.1khz nothing else or there will most likely be problems.

Philip  2003-03-22 16:05:10 ( ID:qgapld9c3ma )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi,
I'm new to TMPGEnc and just try this out: converting mpeg (VCD) to mpeg2 (SVCD) then try to read it back into TMPGEnc but the tool wouldn't recognize the new format file. Any idea ?
Thanks,

Ashy  2003-03-22 20:19:05 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

TMPG can encode to MPEG2, but due to licensing issues caanot decode it without a suitable MPEG2 decoder installed such as the m2v.vfp plugin

And there is absolutely No Advantage to encodeing Mpeg1/VCD Files to Mpeg2/SVCD files, it will Just degrade the Quality of the image and take up more disk space...

my athlon 1.0 gh with ati all-in-wonder does not have any prob reading a divx file to convert to mpg file.

but my p4 also freezes..

minion  2003-03-22 21:27:23 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If you just did a System restore then Maybe you forgot to install the Codecs needed to decode the file you are trying to encode..And have you tried Raise the the Priority of the "Direct show File reader"??? and do you have Media Player 9 installed that can also cause Problems...

DOWN-N-DIRTY  2003-03-23 06:10:05 ( ID:9uswu6p/4zg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

THAT WORKED minion THANKS ALOT . NOW THE ONLY PROUBLEM I HAVE IS THAT WHEN I CONVERT THE PICTURE MESSES UP PART WAY THRU THE CONVERSION KINDA LIKE WEIRD COLORS AND BLOCKEY LIKE IT ISNT CATCHING UP ????

minion  2003-03-23 07:39:35 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If it is a divx or XviD file try reaise the Direct show and try installing the FFDshow Filter..The file might also be corrupted and that is why it is breaking up....

yalez  2003-03-21 22:19:57 ( ID:2sp6witkuxn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hope anyone can help here.
Use DVD Decrypter to copy VOB files then DVD2AVI convert to AVI/WAV, finally
use TMPGEnc to encode to MPEG-1 VCD format, the output files looks perfect when
play on my PC using WMP, however when I put it into the VCD player, somewhere
middle of the disc the image start to become distorted and finally unable to
play, anyone has a clue?

Question - TE25 - Need help No.35671
ZOLTAN  2003-03-21 21:47:54 ( ID:fwvtdkldlng )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm trying to convert AVI files to MPEG using TMPGEnc. It'll open some files no problem, but others it'll say 'can't open' or 'not supported'.

One website I checked out said to change the priority number higher for the Directshow Multimedia File Reader to either 1 or 2.

When I do this and try to open an AVI, I get the 'send error report?' window and it shuts the program down?

Anyone have any idea how to fix this?

ZOLTAN  2003-03-22 01:45:33 ( ID:fwvtdkldlng )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Has nobody else had this problem??

Download and install FFDSHOW.

ZOLTAN  2003-03-22 18:01:47 ( ID:fwvtdkldlng )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I downloaded FFDSHOW, and it told me to run ffdshow.exe but it wasn't part of the download?

I'm sorry if I sound like an idiot, but truth be told I am. I know very little about computers and have only been using this program for a week or so.

Do you know what's even causing the problems or what the problem is?

Thanks in advance.

b2bw69  2003-03-22 22:29:56 ( ID:h9umyqadr0m )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You need to decompress the avi file first.

ZOLTAN  2003-03-23 00:01:39 ( ID:fwvtdkldlng )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

A lot of the files I have say Video Compression : DivX Codec in the summary part of properties. When I convert those to MPEG there isn't any problem, but if it doesn't say video compression when I convert it the file size becomes enormous and the sound quality isn't as good (I use Virtuadub to do the sound).
Are those the ones I need to decompress?

minion  2003-03-23 07:43:08 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

There is never really a reason to decompress a file defore encodeing it, Audio is different But most poeple do not have enough hard drive space to hold a uncompressed AVI Movie at about 1.5gb per minute, the encoder decompresses the file as it is encodeing it and it uses the codec that the file was compressed to to decompress it..There is No need to decompress video before encodeing it...

Ashy  2003-03-23 18:14:02 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

>You need to decompress the avi file first.

There is absolutely no need to decompress the video in AVI and cannot think of any reason or situation where you would ever have the need to either.
It is sometimes required to decompress the audio to wav, but not the video.

>A lot of the files I have say Video Compression : DivX Codec in the summary part of properties. It doesn't matter what type of file you encode or whether it is compressed or not, this has no bearing on the output size whatsoever.

It is the length of the source which determines the difference in the file size as well as the bitrate, and depending on the encoding method, the resolution you choose for the output.

If you use the same settings for every source file and use a CBR encoding method then the only thing that can influence your file size is the movie length.

I recommend you start using the wizard for encoding or choose a template.

Do you mean that the image starts to break up into Blocks and distorts till it isn"t playable??? I have gotten this From Burning at a High speed, you should allways use a Low speed to burn VCD/SVCD"s cuz they have no error correction, and I have noticed that VCDeasy is really prone to this Problem when burning...

Question - TE25 - Why is mpg file size so large?!? No.35662
cy  2003-03-21 09:09:57 ( ID:qnb.wwfrl1m )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

hi!

i tried encoding a movie (.avi) and it said that the outcome (.mpg) will be about 2.5G.. does anyone know why it's so large, and how i can reduce it? i thought it should be alot smaller than that, maybe less than 1G.

another thing is that there's no sound either. i tried previewing before encoding, i didn't hear any sound. i also played the encoded part of the movie (.mpg) and the same thing, i can see the movie but there's no sound at all. what's wrong? please help! thks...

cy  2003-03-21 09:38:24 ( ID:qnb.wwfrl1m )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

anyway i have read through more threads n forums but still nothing is clear. y do i have to extract the audio file seperately? y can't this program encode the avi to mpg properly, with both video and audio working?

minion  2003-03-21 09:38:26 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

the audio in your AVI file probably needs to be extracted to a WAV file and the wav file used as the audio source, you can extract the audio with Virtual dub or AVI-Mux..And a 2.5GB file would be about the size of and average 2 hour SVCD, Most VCD"s and SVCD"s have to go on at least 2 CD-R"s and with SVCD"s sometimes 3 or more CD-R"s...

cy  2003-03-21 10:44:12 ( ID:qnb.wwfrl1m )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

thks for the reply minion, but y do i have to extract the audio file seperately? y can't this program encode the avi to mpg properly, with both video and audio working?

cy  2003-03-21 10:47:55 ( ID:qnb.wwfrl1m )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

are there any other encoding programs out there that can encode avi to mpg and have both video and audio working? anyone knows?? pls help! thks..

minion  2003-03-21 20:38:14 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The audio in your AVI file can"t be decoded because the format is Probably AC3 and Most programs can not properly decode AC3 audio..So you would most likely have to extract the audio no matter what program you used, and there are NO Freeware Mpeg encoders out there that have the Quality of Tmpgenc, but there are some that aren"t freeware but they also cost a few Bucks....

Can you suggest a COMMERCIAL piece of software that will convert from AVI or DIVX or whatever to VCD?

Question - TE25 - burning a mpeg-2 file to SVCD using nero No.35659
np75  2003-03-21 06:29:48 ( ID:eyqqaxrv40a )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

This should be simple - I've "converted" a DivX avi to mpeg-2 using TMPG and split the file in 2 so it fits on 2 cds. That part worked fine and I can play each of the files on my PC - the audio and video are in synch. I then used Nero 5 to burn to a 700Mb cd-r using the SVCD option at 2x speed - which seemed to go ok. After the burn I tried loading up the cd on my pc but i can't even read the cd....any ideas?

minion  2003-03-21 09:33:34 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well you need a Program that will read a SVCD from your CD-Drive, you usually just can"t stick the disk in and have it play automaticly..You should be able to navigate through the SVCD Disk and go to the "MpegAV" folder and Run the file called something like "AVSEQ01.MPG" then it should play..But if there is a Different problem let us know...

np75  2003-03-23 23:46:16 ( ID:eyqqaxrv40a )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm putting it down to a bad burn and will try again as I couldn't even access the CD via explorer to naviagte the directories..

Question - TE25 - MPEG4 V3 No.35656
xumoe  2003-03-21 05:51:36 ( ID:xtiz3tplmcr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Will Tsunami MPEG Encoder be supporting MS MPEG4 V3 (MP43)? This codec is not listed on MS codecs site. It is distributted as part of MS Windows Media Tools 4 and includes improvements over the earliear MPG4. I have several avi files that were produced using this codec. I want to convert them to MPEG. (This info is from FOURCC.org)

Also, being new to converting avi to mpeg, why can WMP find the codec, but TMPGEnc and others cannot find it? Are the codecs somehow embedded in the programs?

Any info and help would be appreciated.

minion  2003-03-21 06:03:30 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yes Tmpgenc supports Mpeg-4, if it says the file is unsupported then go to "Options" to "enviromenta Settings" to Vfapi Plugins" and Raise the "Direct show file reader"..this should get Tmpgenc to read the file.

Ashy  2003-03-22 12:18:44 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If you have mediaplayer 9 installed then this is most likely your problem.

Mediaplayer is causing all sorts of problems with programs like TMPG, but not just TMPG.
It seems that Microsoft has implemented some sort of code into mediaplayer 9 and it's MPEG4 codecs which is blocking other software from using it's MPEG4 codecs. Microsoft has always tried to block the use of it's MPEG4 codec with anything other than it's own software.

You could try and find the hacked version of the MPEG4 codecs which are available on the net which should allow you to open these files or try FFDSHOW which can open all MPEG4 codecs including Microsoft,DIVX and XVID.

Your best bet if that doesn't work is to remove Mediaplayer9 and install FFDSHOW. This usually gets TMPG working with MPEG4 files.
